In the course of our work with our beneficiaries, some of the girls revealed that they have had infections resulting from the use of unhygienic materials (like leaves, pieces of cloth or paper) during their monthly period. Some of them are compelled to stay at home during their monthly cycle because they cannot afford sanitary pads and want to avoid any unwanted attention or embarrassment.

Others have been taken advantage of because of their economic inadequacies. Either a family member, teacher, or community member has sexually abused a fair number of these girls, while some were totally ignorant about sexual abuse.

TPGF stepped in to change the narrative for some of them by empowering them with the knowledge they need to build their leadership skills, avoid sexual intercourse/sexual abuse and promote proper menstrual hygiene practices through various sessions on Leadership and Sexual Reproductive Health Education.
